Kalpesh Patel

Athlete of the Month

April 2018

Our Athlete of the Month for April 2018 is Kalpesh Patel, a.k.a “KP.”

KP has improved as an athlete SO much during his time with us. He has taken his own sweet time to add weight to the bar and we applaud that! He has progressed slowly but surely and gotten really strong!

KP always comes in with a great attitude – always smiling! He scales the workouts appropriately and is very consistent with his attendance, often coming in directly off the road after a business trip.

He is dedicated to working hard and making improvements. KP is always super-respectful to coaches and is highly coachable; he takes the time to listen and makes quick adjustments to his movements as needed.

He is an active part of our community and we are glad he is here!  His mindset and commitment to working hard-but-smart are character traits we all like to see.

Kalpesh Patel – 45 years old – working in Pharmaceutical clinical research field.

I tried different gyms (LA fitness, workout anytime, etc.) and one day my friend in Roswell who started working out at CrossFit told me to try it out so I did. I continue to do CrossFit because of the lovely family environment at CFJC, awesome support from coaches / other athletes and the different workouts every day.

My first thought was why did I join CrossFit? …because I couldn’t walk and I laid down on floor for a few minutes after the first WOD. Then I thought if you want to be healthy you have to work out every day so, I am still here after two years.

Lovely family environment at CFJC and support from other members and coaches. I look forward to working out every day at CFJC.

My proudest moments were when I squatted 315 lb and Deadlifted 350 lbs!

My favorites are the  squat and the wall ball. My least favorites are the Snatch and to run.

My favorite WOD is the Barbara. My least favorite WODs are any combinations of running and KB swings.

I want to be able to do Double-Unders and Pull Ups – Not close to my goal yet but working on it and my target is to get it by end of this year.

Note: I saw KP doing strict chin ups the other day so I think he is closer than he thinks he is!

CFJC has really helped me become healthier person and I am thankful for the friends I have made at the gym.

I enjoy spending time with family and friends; volunteering at BAPS temple (baps.org and bapscharities.org), and playing volleyball with friends. I also enjoy travel and music.

After I work out at CrossFit I feel more energetic, helps me de-stress and enjoy the food I love to eat without guilt.

Just do it. Even if you think you are in pretty good shape and good athlete you may feel really sore for first few days/weeks with CrossFit workout …but just keep doing it and you will be surprised at how much you can do. You will enjoy a different workout every day.

I would like to thank Dan and Lara for this awesome place to work out, all coaches for the encouragement and guidance, as well as, all athletes for supporting me during the workouts.
